Biology Extra Credit Poem

I assist our body’s control center,
You can count on me as the message sender!
I will give your life something to live for
Without me, it would surely be a bore.
Please spare me one or two stimulants
Poke, poke, nudge, nudge (hint, hint!)
I’ll be sure to transfer them to Mr. Brain
You may be thinking it, but I’m NOT insane.
I love anything sugary sweet.
Please tell me that’s what you’re going to eat!
I give you all your sense of taste,
So don’t let my work go to waste!
I like soft feathers that tickle,
Irritate, bother, vex, and prickle!
They give you a reason to stop working and laugh,
Instead of staring all day at conic graphs.
Please be wary of the infamous tack,
They really are a pain in the back.
If you step on one barefoot, don’t worry!
I’ll get you away from danger in a hurry.
Also be cautious of red hot objects,
The pain won’t go away even after the reflex.
I’m truly sorry, but this is my job:
To alert Mr. Brain and make you sob.
If only the human body could fly!
I’d let you see the view from the sky!
And if we could fly high enough,
I’d tell you if the clouds are made out of fluff.
The impulse will be sent to a neuron,
To the dendrites, cell body, and down the axon.
This chain of neurons travels to the spinal cord,
We’re traveling fast, so don’t fall off board!
I am with you in every part,
You eyes, hands, nose, and heart.
Mouth, arms, legs, and feet,
I’m also here in your teeth!
Please tell me you’re not scared of me.
My own name says I’m scared of thee.
Hello! At your service!
I am a system and I am the _______!
